Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Review

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and its younger brother of 8 inches are new to the offer of South Korean Samsung tablets. And while we’ve put the small Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 on display, we have to get closer to the larger model in detail, which for the first time may seriously stand side by side with the iPad Air.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 brings a larger screen diagonal, 0.4 inches larger than the standard 10.1 inches, but also almost one inch more than the aforementioned Apple tablet, which has 9.7 inches. Like its younger brother, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is a complete tablet dominated by a fantastic Super AMOLED screen.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 design

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is a beautiful device with a gold metal strip that wraps around its edges. When you add to that that the tablet is offered in two colors: white and titanium bronze, it is clear that some new winds are blowing in Samsung. This can be seen in the recently introduced Galaxy Alpha smartphone, which is very similar to the iPhone 5S, while this tablet can be said to largely enter the yard that belongs to the corresponding tablet from Apple.

The white variant is somehow more classic and established for Samsung, while the bronze has made a change in the perception of one tablet and I personally think it works better, especially when it comes to the contrast in relation to the screen.

Despite the fact that the diagonal of the screen went into the distance, the dimensions did not suffer any greater load. With 247.3 x 177.3 x 6.6 mm, this is not a particularly large tablet, and we pay special attention to the thickness of only 6.6 mm, which is identical to the smaller tablet from the same series. So, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is an incredibly thin and nicely rounded tablet. It’s hard to find such a nicely packaged tablet, even in the ranks of Samsung or Apple itself. The weight of 465g is less than the magic limit of half a kg, which many 10.1-inch tablets exceed. This allows you to use the tablet effortlessly, and you will often find yourself holding the tablet with one hand, albeit for a short period of time.

Everything else is something already seen. I think it should be noted that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is intended primarily for use in a horizontal position, which is best seen by the layout of the keys, which are otherwise easily activated by accidental contact with them. The outer keys also got a gold surface. As with the smaller model, the central button hides a fingerprint sensor. Its functionality is at the level of an 8.4-inch cousin, so you need to save a little nerve until you get used to the way the sensor works.

The background is more or less standard. This perforated relief is dominated by an 8MP camera and two rounds, which are only there to break the monotony, and serve to add a special case. The surface is quite flat and smooth, although at first glance it does not look like that, so it can be slippery.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 screen

This is one of the greatest threats this tablet has prepared for us. This beautiful 10.5-inch Super AMOLED screen delivers a great resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels, which is some of the best at the moment. Due to the larger diagonal and the same resolution, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has slightly fewer pixels per inch compared to its younger brother, 288 instead of 360. However, that was not enough to spoil the really great image. Photos and text are very sharp and look very clean and smooth, so there is no talk of pronounced pixels.

This type of screen is quite bright, so it is the same here. The picture is fantastic. Black is deep enough, the contrast is strong enough, and the colors are very vibrant. It is simply a real pleasure to work with this screen or tablet. The colors that the tablet displays are stronger, but at the same time more natural, than the competitors. At the same time, the screen offers several special modes depending on the needs for which you use the tablet so that the image is at the highest level. And satiety is always like that.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 software

The software is the latest possible. Sam KitKat Android OS, Samsung’s latest software is here. The user gets an interface that is easy to change according to their own wishes, and the desktop looks cleaner and clearer. Of course, there is also a sea of options, most of which are useful in nature. There is also a division of windows into two parts, Remote PC, Dropbox, Quick Connect, etc.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 specification and performance

The team of two quad-core processors with operating frequencies of 1.3 and 1.9 GHz is in charge of the work of this great tablet. Of course, all eight cores will never play at the same time, but one or the other processor is used as needed. When less power is required, a weaker processor works and vice versa, thus achieving energy savings.

In practice, this means that there are no delays and that the performance is really at a high level. Apps will never take up your time, while minor downtime is only noticed when you turn on a demanding game.

When it comes to battery life, suffice it to say that with some average consumption, which includes watching movies, surfing the net or, say, typing a document, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 lasts over 14 hours, which is a result worth admiring. It’s somewhere around the level of competitors like the Sony Xperia Tablet z2 and Apple iPad Air, and probably a little better. The reason for this is AMOLED screen technology, which is more economical than a classic LCD.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Conclusion

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is just a fantastic tablet. This is perhaps one of the top 3.4 Android tablets at the moment. It would be said that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has everything – a great screen, an improved design, two processors, a generous memory, a quite decent and sometimes pleasantly surprising camera, and outstanding battery life. The only thing he misses is the S Pen.

This tablet also has an acceptable price, which varies depending on whether you buy the tablet in Wi-Fi or the 4G version. However, if that is not an obstacle for you, then you will quickly be convinced that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is ideal for both entertainment and business.
