LG G6 Review

As has been announced for a long time, the new LG G6 model was presented a few days ago at a large press conference organized by the South Korean giant on the eve of the MWC fair. Now that we know what this new beauty looks like and what it has to offer, we can present it to you and show you all the advantages and disadvantages that the new LG G6 has.

LG G6 phone design

As we are already used to, LG always surprises us when it comes to top device design – the LG G4 had a series with a leather back, the LG G5 was modular, and the LG G6 has a huge screen and that is its main feature.

The look of the device itself has changed compared to the last generation, so we no longer have a replaceable battery and modules, but a unibody design that combines metal and glass. There is Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the front of the phone, and Gorilla Glass 5 on the back. Yes, we have already seen this look, on all other phones on the market, but we will give LG a chance to amaze us.

LG G6 Colors

The colors to choose from are black, white, and gray. And while black and white are magnets for fingerprints and stains, the silver chrome version is very interesting and attractive for customers. In addition, the metal frame that frames the phone provides decisive protection against bumps and falls, so the LG G6 will last you a long time.

What kind of camera does the LG G6 have?

Here, too, LG followed the trends, so like most competitors, it uses 2 13 MP lenses on the main camera. What these two lenses provide is a 100-degree shooting angle that will allow you to take great wide-angle photos. There are also 2x optical zoom, 14x digital zoom, and all the other necessary sensors that today’s cameras have as standard equipment.

The 5MP front camera is not thrilling, but it will serve to take some selfies.

The best that the LG G6 offers – a display

The magnificent 5.7-inch display that brings us an innovative 18: 9 aspect ratio (instead of the standard 16: 9) is the absolute star of this phone. Not only does it bring us very interesting screen options but it also provides an extremely good and sharp image. With a resolution of 2880 × 1440 and as much as 564 pixels per square inch, this QHD display is the first to have Dolby Vision support and can display HDR (high dynamic range) images.

What makes this display very practical is the division of the screen into two separate windows that allows you to use multitasking in the true sense of the word. These two windows help you use two applications or two compatible options of the same application (to see a preview of the previous image while taking a new one) and to have enough space to use both comfortably.

While some reviews of the LG G6 model say that the new display is quite rugged, others claim that the 18: 9 ratio will soon become the standard and that all new phones will have just this type of display. We still don’t know who is right, and time will show where the progress in mobile telephony is leading us.

What kind of hardware does the LG G6 bring?

What is hidden under the hood of this newcomer did not particularly impress us. Given that LG hastened to launch its main trump card for this year, it missed the opportunity to wait for the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 to see the light of day. Instead of this new super-chip, the LG G6 uses a slightly older model, the Snapdragon 821, which is also good but belongs to the last generation of chips, which automatically makes it less attractive than the models we will have the opportunity to see later in the year.

In addition, there are also 4GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4, USB 3, a fingerprint reader on the back, and a 3300mAh battery. Considering the size of the screen and its performance, we expected a slightly stronger battery, but this one should last all day playing on the phone.

What else do you need to know about this phone?

There are a few more “little things” that will make this model very interesting, and here is exactly what it is about:

  • The LG G6 is waterproof and has an IP68 score, which means that nothing bad will happen to it if it gets a little wet, falls into the water, or gets wet. It is also resistant to dust particles, so you don’t have to worry about it getting dusty.
  • Android 7.0 is processed and uses the LG UX 6.0 interface that will allow you to use all the default applications in 18: 9 mode and make optimal use of all the space on this large screen.
  • The battery cannot be removed. LG has long adhered to the rule that the battery must be replaceable, but now they have abandoned this rule and joined the general trend. If you want a new battery, go to a service center, and professionals will replace it.
  • The LG G6 is the first non-Google phone to use the Google Assistant app. If you thought that only Google Pixel owners could enjoy this interesting application, you were wrong – now those who buy the LG G6 can do the same. We believe this is a sign that Google Assistant will soon be available on some other devices as well.
  • If you are wondering if the LG G6 has a headphone jack , the answer is YES, it is there.

Is the LG G6 a phone for me?

It is difficult to give the right answer to this question. If you are a fan of LG and you loved the LG G4, then the new model will completely delight you. However, given that we are just at the beginning of a year that should bring us a lot of news in the world of mobile phones, we may still need to wait a little longer and see what they can offer us before all Samsung and Apple, but also Sony, Huawei and of course Nokia.

The new LG G6 will be available for sale from March 10, so you can order this interesting phone in a few days. All in all, the LG G6 is one quite solid phone, but it seems that LG missed the chance to do something really great due to its speed.
