This is exactly what it is, a drink that opens the evening in front of us and introduces us to enjoying dinner, that is, lunch, when we eat lunch earlier. It is customary to choose dry, bitter drinks for this purpose, although many also opt for liqueurs. Namely, the human senses are best stimulated with drinks that are bitter.
The first official aperitif was made in 1896. Dibone, or French port, is based on wine, to which herbs have been added. It can be found in 147 countries around the world, but not in the United States.
The most famous aperitif, a common choice of women, is certainly vermouth. It is also based on wine, and wormwood, anise, cinnamon and coriander give it a taste.
There is also a martini, which makes more gin and slightly less vermouth. Another aperitif comes from France – perno, with anise flavor. Of course, brandy is very often chosen as in taverns. It is served chilled, in a cold glass. It is especially good in front of appetizers or pork.
You can drink an aperitif with ice, or more precisely with a lot of ice, which is the best option. Also, many combine them with lemonade, tonic or soda.
Digestives are drinks that are served after a meal. The name itself comes from the French word digestif – a tool that helps digestion. Precisely, their purpose or function is to make our digestion easier. Unlike aperitifs, which are bitter, these drinks should be sweet. Digestives are characterized by a high alcohol content – 30% and more.
Brands or portos are most often ordered. However, after a strong meal, many are happy to choose vodka or tequila. Of course, whiskey is highly valued. Also, bitter herbs are considered suitable for digestion, as well as lemon or orange liqueur.
Sweet wines can also be a good choice, but so can beer. The restaurant is the right place where you can consult what you would like the most, so you may choose cognac, sherry or rum from the offer.
If you still choose brandy in this case, it should be slightly warm. It is a great choice with chocolate cakes and cookies. Coffee can also be served with a digestif.
