In this article, I show you how to play dominoes board/tile game. There are a lot of different ways to play Dominoes but here are the rules for basic Dominoes.

Setup Guide

The object of the game is to be the first player to score 150 points. From double blank to double sixes there are 28 Dominoes. Place the Dominoes facedown on the table and mix them all up. In a two-player game, each player selects seven dominoes.

In a three to four player game, each player selects five. Keep your dominoes in front of you but hidden from your opponents. The player with the highest double (that is a domino with matching numbers on both ends) places that double on the table to start the game. After the first round, the person who won the previous round starts the next round. Play proceeds clockwise.

Gameplay Rules

To play you must place a matching domino next to any of the four exposed ends. Doubles are placed perpendicular to other dominoes when being played. The first double played is called ‘the spinner’. You may play off of either end of the spinner as well as its regular signs. The spinner is the only place where it can be played off of four ways. However, due to space constraints, a tile may be connected at a right angle creating an L in the layout.

If a player doesn’t have a domino of a matching value they must pick a domino from the boneyard which is the facedown pile of remaining dominoes. They keep picking up dominoes from the boneyard until they get a playable domino. If after picking up all the dominoes in the boneyard and they still do not have a playable domino then they must pass their turn to the next player.

Points may be awarded during the play of the hand by making the exposed ends of the chain total to multiples of 5 you receive as many points as you make. The first player to play all their dominoes wins the hand.

They also score points for all the remaining unplayed dominoes in the other players as hands. Add them together, then round to the nearest multiple of 5. Give this many points to the winner of the hand. The first player to reach 150 points wins.
