Sony Xperia Z5 Review

You are currently viewing Sony Xperia Z5 Review

In this article, I give you my Sony Xperia Z5 review with specs included. After only four months since the launch of the Sony Xperia Z3 +, a new bombastic model of the Sony Xperia Z5 phone is already arriving from Sony. What has Sony prepared for us this time? What’s new in the Sony Xperia Z5? And is it worth taking this phone? You will just find out the answers to these questions!

Proven design with minimal changes

Sony has stayed true to its Omnibalance design direction, so the Sony Xperia Z5 also has a distinctive line. The sharp edges give it a certain dose of elegance and it is up to you to judge whether you like something like this or not. Gorilla Glass 4 is located at the front and back, the sides are aluminum, and the edges themselves are coated with rubber that cushion bumps when falling and prevents you from injuring yourself on your own phone.

With dimensions of 146x72x7.5mm, this is definitely a bigger phone, but it fits very well in your hand, so you shouldn’t have any problems with handling it. On the right side, there are also buttons for increasing and decreasing the tone, a camera shutter, as well as a button for turning on the phone, which has been completely redesigned. It is now oval in shape (on the Sony Xperia Z3 + it was round) and contains a fingerprint detector. This detector is also the biggest novelty we can see on the Sony Xperia Z5.

The colors you can choose for your model are black, gold, green and white.

Distinctive Sony display and camera

Known for producing quality TV displays, Sony has been trying to apply the same technology to its mobile phones for years. So with the Sony Xperia Z5 comes a 5.2-inch Triluminos display diagonally. This is actually an IPC LCD display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels that will provide you with 423 pixels per square inch, which is not bad at all. Some other manufacturers already offer higher resolutions, but Sony has decided to stay with Full HD because this company claims that this is enough for your phone. After all, you’re not going to watch movies on it, are you?

As far as the camera is concerned, Sony has shown itself well here as well. The rear camera of as much as 23 megapixels is exceptional. In addition to such a large resolution, there are a number of additional options that will make your images flawless, such as super-fast autofocus, better image stabilizer so that the micro-movements of your hands will no longer affect the image quality, wide shooting angle, HD video recording, etc. However, although such a large resolution is possible, most of your images will be taken at a default resolution of 8 megapixels. Of course, it is possible to manually increase it and make the most of your phone.

What is hidden under the glass cover of the Sony Xperia Z5?
There are no surprises in terms of hardware – Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM is copied from the previous model Sony Xperia 3+. Unfortunately, this combination has not been very great in the past, so the Sony Xperia Z3 + had serious problems with overheating and slightly poorer performance. Fortunately, these problems have been removed and the new model works very well.

The battery has not been significantly changed either. The Sony Xperia Z5 uses a 2900mAh battery that will last you a whole day without any problems when you use it intensively. Some of you remember that a year or two ago, Sony was the champion among phones in terms of battery and durability, but unfortunately, that cannot be said for this model either. It seems that the hardware improvements were too much for a standard battery.

Software: Android + Sony UI

The Sony Xperia Z5 comes with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop release. Although version 6.0 (Marshmallow ) has been launched, it is not yet available for this device. Given that Sony is not wasting time, we can expect that all users of this phone will soon be able to switch to the latest Android.

Of course, Sony not only uses Android but also gives it its own stamp, which can be seen as soon as you take a look at the homepage. The new Sony UI is available and makes Android much more comfortable and convenient to use. In addition, there is a full range of Sony applications for calls, messages, email, music and video playback, and much more. The most interesting thing for us was the ability to connect to your PlayStation and play games from the console on your phone, buy new games for your PS4, and stream music from one device to another.

Is the Sony Xperia Z5 also waterproof?

Yes, this model is also waterproof and dustproof. But that only means that the phone will not be damaged if it gets wet or if it accidentally falls into the water and you take it out very quickly. Unfortunately, this feature does not give us the opportunity to take underwater photos or go diving with a phone “in your pocket”.

Should I replace my old Sony Xperia Z with a Sony Xperia Z5?

The only case when our answer is NO is if you have a Sony Xperia Z3 because the novelties that the Sony Xperia Z5 offers are not so radical when compared to this model. However, if you have any earlier model and you are a fan of Sony’s Xperia Z series, then this is a very good refresh that will bring you better performance, a more powerful camera, and a very fast and stable device.

Where can it be bought and how much does the Sony Xperia Z5 cost?
You can already order the Sony Xperia Z5! You can see all the details about the price, as well as our video review of this device.
