Nokia 6 Review

The first Nokia phone to have the Android operating system came out on the market in January this year, in China, and more than a million reservations made before the official launch of the phone were sold in just 23 seconds. As of August 2, the Nokia 6 can also be found on the European market, specifically in the UK. With a 3000mAh battery and a 5.5-inch screen size, this gadget promises us a lot. While some say that they get the same quality for a great price, others think that only the name sells this phone. Um, which of the following is true? Let’s find out!

To remind you, Nokia as a brand started to go out not so long ago in 2014 when this company was bought by Microsoft. However, in 2016, the situation changed and Nokia, like Phoenix, rose from the ashes. This is thanks to the company Foxconn Technology (its daughter company HDM is in charge of the production of the phone ), and you can read exactly what it is about in the text in which we wrote about the return of Nokia.

Design and display

As for the design itself, the Nokia 6 looks very luxurious. The company achieved this effect by making a phone out of aluminum. At first glance, you can see the robust design of Nokia. The dimensions of the phone are 154 x 75.8 x 7.85mm. Although we like it, we have to notice that this phone does not have a rounded edge, so it does not lie so well in the hand. Nokia 6 comes in several shades – Matt Black (Black), Silver (Silver), Tempered Blue (Blue), and Copper (copper, more precisely, pink).

You should know the following about design:

  • the buttons for turning on the phone, sound, and lock are on the right side,
  • the headphone jack is located on the top of the phone and is 3.5mm,
  • The USB port is located on the bottom of the phone.

What caught our eye was the fingerprint scanner, which does not fit into such a low price. The scanner works great, but keep in mind that you’ll need to rest your finger twice – the first time to launch the display and the second time to unlock it.

When it comes to the display, the Full HD resolution on the 5.5 ” LCD screen is more than enough to play games and perform all other tasks. The phone is designed so that all viewing angles are well made. Observing the colors, it can be noticed that they are very bright and bright. However, since the Nokia 6 does not have an AMOLED display, you may miss the deep, black color.

What is the camera like on the Nokia 6 phone?

The Nokia 6 has a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. Both of these cameras have f / 2.0 lenses. The 16MP camera works great, and next to it you can see two LED lights that serve as a flash of light. Both the camera and the LEDs are slightly protruding, so we advise you to be careful when lowering the phone, so as not to damage them.

Just like the rear, the front camera can be used to take selfies, and it has buttons to take videos and go to your gallery. At the top of the screen, you can see the options for HDR, flash, and you can set a timer.

What do the photos look like? Pretty good, the details are highlighted and the colors are vivid. However, avoid too bright or too dark places. Namely, if you are outside, in extremely strong sun, it is very likely that the photo will be blurry because the Nokia 6 does not have enough stabilizing power when taking photos. Unfortunately, the same thing happens in a dimly lit and darkroom, even when you turn on the flash.

What is “under the hood”?
“Under the hood” you can find a pretty impressive assembly. In terms of hardware, the Nokia 6 has:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor
  • Adreno 505 graphics card
  • 3GB RAM and
  • 32GB internal memory.

When it comes to phone performance, we think Nokia could have built in a better processor, given the screen size (although then the phone would have been more expensive). The internal memory is quite sufficient for all multimedia content – games, photos, videos, and music, but if that’s not enough, you can always expand it with an additional 128GB microSD card. Note that the internal memory is actually around 22GB, as the rest is occupied by applications and the operating system.

Do you remember what Nokia was known for back in the 1990s? By battery life! Unfortunately, this time it is not the case. Namely, although the milliampere of the battery is a significant 3000, the Nokia 6 does not boast a long battery life. Specifically, your battery probably won’t last a single day. Additionally, in half an hour this phone will only charge 10%, and in about 3 hours the battery will increase by 60%. On the other hand, according to John Ken, from Techradar, who challenged Nokia for 6-9 minutes of playing HD games with maximum brightness, the battery proved to be durable. According to this experiment, the battery life on that day was reduced by only 22%, which is a pretty good result.

Software and applications on your Nokia 6 phone

Android, finally Android! Nokia 6 supports Android Nougat and it seems that this OS is just right for her. Applications run very quickly unless you use multiple applications that are “heavier”.

What makes Nokia 6 even better is that you have one of each type of application, that is, one application for the calendar, one for sending messages, etc. In addition, everything that applies to devices that support this system also applies to Nokia – Google Assistant, multiwindow option, replying to messages directly from the notification, Dose 2.0 that extends battery life, and other benefits. Nokia 6 works great on the Android Nougat 7.1.1 update.

Conclusion: Nokia is back!

Nokia 6 is Nokia’s first attempt to return to the market and regain its power. Judge for yourself how successful she was in that, and we present you with a list of advantages and disadvantages of this phone that can help you make your judgment.

Advantages:

  • full HD screen of 5.5 ”,
  • great camera (16MP and 8MP),
  • good performance when it comes to launching applications.

Disadvantages:

  • short battery life,
  • non-ergonomic design.

For all Nokia fans, this company has prepared another surprise – Nokia 8, which should appear on the market at any moment. We can’t wait to see what awaits us with this top model!
