How to play Vicious Circle?

You are currently viewing How to play Vicious Circle?

In this article, you can read about the basic rules of the card game Vicious Circle and learn how to play. The object of the game is to be the player at the end of the round with the most taken cards. To take cards you play herbivores or predators on piles.

Setup

Deal five cards to each player. There are three piles where players can play cards. Pick a player to go first. At the start of your turn draw until you have five cards in your hand. Then you may play any number of vegetation cards onto any of the three piles on the table or you may play one grasshopper, mouse or rabbit on any existing pile of vegetation cards thereby claiming that stack of cards as your own. However, any other player may trump you with an appropriate predator card.

Snakes eat mice, lizards eat grasshoppers, and hawks eat any other animal. The first player to lay down a higher animal card claims title to the pile unless another player plays a higher animal. Reference to the animal trump order can be seen on the back of all the cards. You don’t have to play trump cards or play on your turn if you don’t want to. Gameplay resumes with the player to the left of the player whose turn it was last.

The piles taken by players are not added to their hand. They are kept as a trophy and used to determine the victor at the end of the game. When the last card is drawn each player has one more turn until the round ends. Each card taken through gameplay counts as one point. The game may be played in one round if you like or through many rounds as players race to be the first person to 250 points.
